Nazareth was founded in 1740 by George Whitfield. It encompassed 5,000 acres in regions known as the Borough of Nazareth and Townships of Upper Nazareth and Lower Nazareth.

Nazareth is located near the eastern border of Pennsylvania in Northampton County. The area is immediately north and northwest of the cities of Bethlehem and Easton and close to the largest market centers and population in the United States (70 miles from New York City and 65 miles from Philadelphia).
